From the beginning, when the plasma screen television hit the market, everyone was in awe. When viewed next to the heavier models that took up more room, the thin and flat new model was definitely an upgrade. It was this feature – the being lean – that enabled the plasma screen television to be so readily flexible, in ways that the older televisions were not. You have, for example, the option to either mount it on the wall or hang it from the ceiling. The plasma screen was particularly popular in showrooms because of these designs, which saved a considerable amount of space.
So what is the technology behind such a radical advancement in the way we enjoy our favorite shows and movies? Unlike the average set, the plasma screen television does not use cathode ray tubes (CRT) in producing its images. The fact that most pre-plasma televisions used CTR is exactly why so many of them took up so much space. Instead of CRT, the plasma screen television uses glass components (or “cells”) that are injected with neon-xenon, a gas. The neon-xenon is then suspended in plasma, which strikes blue, green, and red phosphors when electrically charged. An image results when the phosphors errupt.
You may know people who have purchased a plasma screen television due simply to the size alone. You invite negative consequences if you allow yourself to be unaware of the full aspects of these features. Though you can easily purchase a plasma screen television that is anywhere from 32″ to 63″, you should not automatically assume that bigger is a better deal. People do this without thinking about how large their room size for the television is going to be. The urge to go with “biggest is best” might be soothed if you keep in mind that the sets are going to loom large no matter which size you get, due to their impressive build and design.
Many different studies have been cited that show the dangers of sitting too close to the TV. For any television that is 32″-37″, you should maintain a space of at least 6-10 feet. A greater distance of ten to fourteen feet is recommended for people purchasing a 42 to 46 inch television. For people who will buy the plasma measuring 50-inch or more, it is better to stay at a distance of 15 feet. And for sets measuring up to 60-inch and more, a distance of at least 25 feet should be observed.
