Plasma televisions require a completely different type of technology than the older models. Images are not produced in the plasma screen television through any cathode ray tubes, or CRT. The fact that most pre-plasma televisions used CTR is exactly why so many of them took up so much space. Rather than employ CRT, the plasma screen television is composed of neon-xenon gas into tiny glass cells. Red, green, and blue colors can result from an electrically charged gas that is suspended in plasma. Through the eruption of the phosphors, an image is made.

While size can be a nice benefit, you can reap negative benefits through letting size blind you to the bigger picture. A plasma screen television can be 32″, 40″, 42″, 46″, 50″, 61″, or even 63″, and bigger is not always better. The main consideration is what the room size for the television will be. If you don’t avoid sitting too close to the television, you can wind up with a number of health problems. If you are getting a set that is around 32 to 37 inches, then you should always keep a distance of six to ten feet. However, if you are going a little larger, with a 42-46 inch set, then increase your distance to ten to fourteen feet. People buying a plasma that is 50 inches, or greater, need to stay back at least 15 feet. Experts further believe that you should stay back at least 25 feet from any TV that is 60″ or larger.
