When plasma screen television first hit the market, everyone was at awe. It was only natural that people would view the newer televisions, which were thin and flat, over the outdated and bulky ones they were used to buying. Another major benefit of the plasma screen television was that they offered more choices in how they could be integrated into the room. For instance, you can either mount it up your wall or let it hang from the ceiling. Taking up such little space was a great way to endear these slim line models to the showcase and display rooms, who readily began showcasing them.
So what is the technology behind such a radical advancement in the way we enjoy our favorite shows and movies? The older sets used cathode ray tubes, or CRT, to produce images, while the plasma screen television does not. The amount of space required to house a television in the pre-plasma era is mostly to blame on the CTR that was included. Tiny glass compartments, or cells, are injected with a gas called neon-xenon, which is used instead of CRT in a plasma screen television. You have the neon-xenon which is then suspended in the plasma and strikes blue, green, and red colored phosphors whenever it becomes charged with electricity. And when these phosphors erupt, an image is produced.
You may know people who have purchased a plasma screen television due simply to the size alone. Features can easily have negative consequences for those that are blinded by the positives. A plasma screen television can be 32″, 40″, 42″, 46″, 50″, 61″, or even 63″, and bigger is not always better. You have to remember what size room you are going to be putting the set into. After all, the sheer size of even the smallest set will be impressive, and it’s important to keep in mind placement when picking a set.
You’ll want to avoid sitting too close to the television screen, as it can cause several harmful health defects. If you are getting a set that is around 32 to 37 inches, then you should always keep a distance of six to ten feet. TV sets that are 42-46 inch should command a distance of 10 to 14 feet. For people who will buy the plasma measuring 50-inch or more, it is better to stay at a distance of 15 feet. And for sets measuring up to 60-inch and more, a distance of at least 25 feet should be observed.
